Socket x socket Schedule 40 fittings, called slip or hub fittings, include socket ends on all fitting connection ends. The socket ends fit over the end of a PVC pipe and require glue or adhesive to secure the connection. Schedule 40 fittings have thinner walls than Schedule 80.
